Made by Hand. Shaped by the Wood Itself.

Bespoke woodwork made to last a lifetime.

Every piece begins with a single question: what does this wood want to become? The result is not furniture. It is a document of care.

FROM THE FEATHER RIVER COUNTRY

Our Shop, Rooted in the Sierra Nevada

Our shop sits in the shadow of the Sierra Nevada, not far from where the Feather River runs cold and clear. Most of our wood comes from within the region — trees that have already lived here, already weathered something. We think that matters.

THE WOOD

We choose for character, not compliance. Every piece begins with finding the right material — grain, figure, history. Sometimes that takes weeks. It's always worth it.

THE HAND

We favor hand tools wherever they produce a better result. The marks they leave — slightly alive, slightly imperfect — are not flaws. They are the signature of the work.

THE TIME

We do not rush. A piece made for twenty years from now deserves time now. We take on a small number of commissions each year, and give each one everything it deserves.

HONEST WORK IN WOOD

The furniture makers we admire most were not interested in impressing anyone. They were interested in getting it right — in honoring the material, slowing down, and making something that would outlast the trend that surrounded it.

James Krenov called this approach "honest." He meant that the wood should look like wood, the joinery should do what it says it does, and the hand of the maker should be visible rather than hidden. We take him seriously.

Testimonials

  • "Richard’s handmade redwood sofa table, side table, and hand-carved whale sign are absolutely stunning, bringing a unique, rustic charm to our beach house. The incredible craftsmanship and rich, beautiful wood grain on each piece perfectly compliment the space, making them the highlight of our coastal home."

    — Courtney, Mendocino

  • Richard, truly has a gift to build things with wood. His finished work, regardless if it's a small project, or a large project, is impeccable. It shows his care and love for the art of making and building things with wood. All of his furniture is created by him, one by one, and not mass produced, as most furniture is today. Anyone that has a piece of his work, will have something that will last for years to be passed down.

What We Make

01

Hand-Carved Signs

Every sign begins with the right piece of wood — chosen for its grain, its figure, its character. Letters are carved by hand, not cut by machine. The result is something that belongs to a specific place, and looks like it always has.

02

Tables & Furniture

We build tables meant to anchor a room for generations — around a single exceptional slab, with joinery that does what it says it does. Benches, consoles, cabinets: whatever the space calls for, built without hurry and without compromise.

03

Sculptures & Custom Work

Bears, whales, elk, birds — and things we haven't been asked to make yet. If you have something in mind that doesn't fit a category, that's usually the most interesting conversation we have. Tell us what you're imagining.

We take a limited number of commissions each year. The process begins with a single conversation.
